The Culpeper Residential Living | Culpeper, VA
The Culpeper is a LifeSpire of Virginia Community located in the rolling foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Historic Culpeper has a rich culture and has an international flair with the downtown offering quaint shops, plenty of food offerings, boutiques and antiquing. All qualities that we strived to incorporate into the design and provide right on site.
The new building is not only an addition to a long-standing campus but also as a replacement of a historic building which sat central to the property.
The new program included 54 Residential Living residences providing a level of concierge services in line with Assisted Living and 32 Assisted Living Memory Care residences split into two 16 bed households designed around a central core of services and support. The smaller sized neighborhoods presented a more “home-like” scale and atmosphere while providing open plan concepts for the living and dining spaces. The same approach was taken for the 48 new Skilled Nursing residences which were split into three 16 bed households with two providing long-term care and one designed to provide short-term care/rehab services. Each of the new households were anchored to a centralized activity core where shared program spaces were available as well as provide a strong support spine to provide services throughout with a hospitality flair.
The new design picked up some of the character elements from the historic structure while incorporating state-of-the-art features expected in today’s market. When shaping the new and expanded resident commons spaces, we draw influences from the surrounding community and looked to create a highly active activity core with a boutique approach since with the various spaces sized for a more intimate feel. Dining was to be designed as the heart of the commons with the main venue set in a vaulted space set off to the side to provide natural light and views on three sides. In the space we were able to take the food prep to another level by opening the production to include an exhibition kitchen at par with the local restaurants in the area.
